Previous Workshops
Since 2004, Phoenix Hill Renovations’ owner,
Mickel Zuidhoek, has been teaching “Real-Life Renovation”at
Yestermorrow Design/Build School in Warren, Vermont.

Renovation workshop
projects have included remodeling the school’s chalet
for future intern accommodation, and the renovation in a private home. This
remodeling project featured instruction in building a temporary
support wall, removing
an exterior load bearing wall, rebuilding the wall and installing two new
windows and a
door, and re-siding the exterior with board and batten.
The private home renovation included building temporary
support walls before removing a load-bearing wall, and replacing it
with a
structural
beam
and a support
post made from a solid maple tree trunk.

Students also removed an existing
entry door and replaced that with a window. In addition, students
installed a new entry door, and framed and sheet-rocked
an opening for a pantry. Read what students have said >> |
